One interesting thing about (slowly) migrating away from Facebook is that as I'm going through my "memories" and removing them one at a time each day, I'm seeing a lot of events from the past that were important to me, documented in detail. Having those little details documented (what I was doing, who I was doing it with, how it made me feel at the time) feels... wrong. Aren't we supposed to let our memories fuzz over that stuff? Isn't that how we move on from things?

A friend of mine once said (and I wrote it down because it was so poignant): "Things that exist in our memories can mingle with our peculiar brains and take on a life of their own." But with the Book of Faces(tm), you don't have that luxury. It stops those lives from forming.

I wonder what it does to a person, to have every single detail of one's life documented and subsequently examined later. I wonder what it does to a person to go through all of those documented details, revisiting all of the feelings attached to them, and then deleting them?

When did we forget how to forget?

Thank you all for your condolences. If you didn't see my post earlier on the Book of Faces, I'm so sad to say that my cat, my little boy Pippin passed away tonight. Pippin was the first cat that was truly mine start to finish. He was always my little boy. He loved my lap above all other laps. When he was younger and more spry, he was a champion player of string and laser pointer, and also a good mouser, with at least one confirmed kill to his name. He held our house together; all the cats revered him. It's going to be a difficult adjustment as we, and the cats, adjust to life without him. He was pretty much the center of everything around here, the benevolent patriarch, always available for snugs and affection when anyone needed it. It's such a shock to lose him so suddenly, but he was an old man and his health had been poor for a while now. I guess I kind of hoped he'd live forever. Naive. He will be missed and I will always love and miss my little boy.

Adidas has sold over 1,000,000 pairs of sneakers made from "ocean plastic." Put another way, there's more than enough floating plastic garbage in the ocean to make over 1,000,000 pairs of sneakers....
